The library’s audio-visual collection includes recordings, artist documentaries, theatre, dance and cinema. The audio-visual collection consists of materials in different formats that can be either borrowed or viewed using the library’s facilities. Recordings and moving image materials can also be streamed through the databases.

The library’s audio-visual collection mainly consists of fine arts DVDs such as artist documentaries, video art and experimental cinema. The materials are principally lend out for 14 days.

 

The customers will also have access to the Art in Architecture in Video database which includes documentaries and interviews from the field and can be streamed.

 

The library’s silent audio-visual and study room can be used for watching films on a small screen with headphones on. The room cannot be booked and is therefore open to all customers during open hours.

The recordings collection mostly contains Western art music. Jazz and folk music recordings are also acquired for study purposes. Historic and new interpretations of all major works are purchased. Documentaries such as master classes and instrument introductions are also acquired.

 

The library’s audio collection is divided into recording collection with the lending period of 14 or 28 days. The library’s open-reel tapes and certain other recordings are available in digital format on the Doria database (some materials can only be accessed at the library).

 

Some of the recordings are stored in the archive (vinyl, see the search table (pdf) A-B, C-H, I-M, N-R, S-Ö; performers (per instrument); choirs/vocal ensembles; singers; orchestras).


The video recording collection includes DVDs, Blu-ray discs and VHS tapes. Some video recordings are stored in the archives.

The library’s audio-visual collection is focused on Western art music and particularly church music. The collection has some recordings used by the University of Applied Sciences' dance programme. The Conservatory's music play school audio-visual materials are also located within the library. The library’s DVD collection has been a target for special expansion over the last few years. The library’s audio collection is divided into materials used in the reference library and the recording collection that is available for loan. The materials are principally lend out for 14 days. The reference library collection can provide students and staff with lecture and night loans.

The library’s audio-visual collection includes CDs and DVDs that can be searched in the Uniarts Helsinki’s Finna. The materials are principally loaned out for 14 days. The library also provides its customers with video databases (see the list of databases).

 

Audio-visual materials that are not available for loan are:

  • Thesis- and dissertation-related recordings

  • Reference library recordings

 

The library has a group work space that can be used for viewing the materials. The group work room can be booked by signing the calendar on the door.
