Library card
Instructions for obtaining a library card for students and personnel at Uniarts Helsinki as well as for external users. The library card can be used to borrow materials from all library units.
General information on library cards
The Uniarts Helsinki library is open to all. Upon receiving the library card, the user undertakes to comply with the Uniarts Helsinki library operating rules and the service fee list.
Any person aged 15 or over who has a Finnish personal identity code and street address in Finland may register as a library user. The exceptions are exchange students, teachers and researchers visiting the university, who may register as a library user without being subject to the above-mentioned conditions.
To register as a library user, you will need a valid photo ID issued by an official authority (passport, identity card, residence permit card or driving licence). Users under 15 years of age must have their legal guardian’s consent.
The library card is free. If you lose your library card, the new replacement card is subject to a fee according to the service fee list.
Remember to keep your contact details, especially your email address, up to date. Reminders, arrival notifications, etc. will be sent to the email address you have given to the library. Contact details can be updated in Peppi (students), Mepco (personnel) or Arsca (other users). If necessary, contact the library customer service.
Students and personnel of Uniarts Helsinki
As a student or employee of Uniarts Helsinki, you can use a traditional physical library card, a virtual library card in the Tuudo mobile app, or both. You will also have access to a virtual card in the Arsca online library.
If you want a traditional physical library card, visit the library during the opening hours of customer service. Bring your identity card with you so that we can find your information in the university’s personal data system and create a library card for you. You do not need to fill out the library card application form in advance.
Activating your digital library card in Tuudo
Students and personnel at Uniarts Helsinki can use the digital library card through the Tuudo mobile app. You can get a library card by downloading Tuudo from the app store on your phone. The card can be used straight away.
Virtual library card in Arsca
You can also find the barcode for both the virtual card obtained through Tuudo and the physical library card in the Arsca online library. Log in to Arsca (instruction for Arsca login) and select Library Cards from the Your Account menu). You can use both Tuudo and Arsca virtual cards by showing them from your phone screen at the library self-service machines. Make sure that the phone screen is bright enough.
Use of the library after graduation or end of employment
The Tuudo app and the Tuudo digital library card are at your disposal for the duration of your studies or employment. When your studies have been completed or employment has ended, Tuudo will stop working. However, you will remain a library user even after graduation or the end of your employment relationship. You do not need a new library card – you will still be able to use the virtual library card in Arsca. You can also obtain a traditional library card if you prefer to use that.
When you graduate or your employment ends, make sure that your contact details are up to date. Be sure to change the email address linked to your library card to a non-Uniarts address. You can update your email address using the form in Arsca as long as your Uniarts ID is valid. If your ID has expired, visit the library customer service to update your email address.
Non-Uniarts Helsinki users
If you are not a student or employee of Uniarts Helsinki, register as a library user using an online form. You can also fill out a paper form at the library customer service. After filling out the form, you will receive a library card from the library when the customer service is open.
Virtual library card
In addition to the traditional physical library card, you will also have use of a virtual library card, which can be found in the Arsca online library. Log in to Arsca (instruction for Arsca login) and select Library Cards from the My Account menu). The virtual library card is displayed on the phone screen for use with the library self-service machines. Make sure that the phone screen is bright enough.
