Arts databases on trial

The library currently has trial access to four databases. Trial access ends May 18, 2023. 

You can find the trial databases from the library’s Database list under “Trial / New Databases”. Sign in remotely with your Uniarts account.   

Bloomsbury Video Library – Opera Collections  

The Opera Collections on Bloomsbury Video Library feature exclusive filmed productions of eighty operas by over forty composers, from Berlioz to Wagner, with performances from famous opera houses including The Royal Opera House, Teatro Real, La Fenice, Glyndebourne and more. The period collections span Early and Baroque operas from pre-1750 to Modern operas. 

Bloomsbury Music and Sound  

 The database offers two collections: Bloomsbury Popular Music and Sound Studies. Bloomsbury Popular Music provides scholarly coverage of modern popular music worldwide, covering the mid-20th century to the present-day music. The Sound Studies collection provides cross-cultural and interdisciplinary scholarly content in the study of sound. It contains titles from across Bloomsbury and Taylor & Francis, including comprehensive reference works, as well as works by key sound studies authors.

Digital Theatre Plus 

The database provides online access to a digital streaming video collection of films of current British theatre productions. Includes behind-the-scenes documentaries as well as teaching and learning resources. Learning resources include a detailed introduction, plot summary, character biographies, a relationship map, language analysis, scene study, performance background and historical context for each play.  

Human Kinetics Dance Technique 

Featuring more than 500 videos and 800 audio clips alongside ebooks and images, Human Kinetics Dance Technique is a dynamic collection that presents instruction-focused material related to dance. The curated content supports students developing their dance technique and provides teachers with valuable tools that can be implemented within their curriculum.

The library is taking new databases for test use throughout the year. New databases can also be suggested to the library using the acquisition proposal form. The decision for the new databases for the following year will be made at the end of the previous year. Decisions are made according to the annual library resources appropriations , the University of the Arts Helsinki Library’s collection policy, feedback and statistics from the trials.
